Part I | The Dreaded Truth | Louisiana Bayou
A painting hangs inside the bayou's bar of an Elven palace hewn in pale jade stone. Abeline waited at her table with the Amethyst Crystal Ball and wondered what fortune was in the Tarot cards tonight. Her client was running late and the bayou's bar would be closing soon. An eerie mist settled in amongst the trees, and Abeline watched as a pair of gleaming alligator eyes disappeared beneath the water's surface.
Charlene was chatting inside with Lonesome Melody, the weekend bartender, and gathered her belongings in order to make her appointment with Abeline. She glanced briefly at the painting of the Elven Palace and wrinkled her nose at the smokey marijuana joint someone had left burning on the bar. A few guests were lounging toward the back of the room, watching as the night's musicians set up their guitars and drum set.
Charlene found the Gypsy Fortune Teller outside the bar waiting with her Amethyst Ball and a tarot deck. Abeline had already laid out a few cards in a diamond shape and the purple crystal cast an eerie glow over the table. Charlene set her things down next to the tarot table and apologized for her delay.
"No need to apologize," Abeline smiled, "I think I have just the card for you." Abeline flipped over the card at the top of the diamond closest to Charlene and studied it closely. Then she turned the card around so Charlene could see it for herself. The card was not anything Charlene was familiar with. At the top, it read "GAIA" and at the bottom her name was printed in green letters. In the exact middle of the card was a picture of the Earth.
"Are you surprised?" Abeline asked Charlene. Charlene stared at the green card for a few minutes before responding.
"I am surprised." Charlene clutched at her throat with one hand, "What does this mean?" Abeline started to turn over the remaining tarot cards. "I will tell you a story about the past. I am not who you think I am. My story started over 200 years ago when a Fortune Teller was murdered here in this bayou for reading someone's fortune. It is only now, in this present time that the truth will be revealed."
